Went to the zoo today....hahaX some will say it's childish yea went to do 'house visit' to the animals on Deepavali...loL^^had so much fun. Quite a successful outing in short, with my fellow 3c'sssss mates. Walked the whole zoo and it poured quite heavily late afternoon! our moods weren't dampened though. IT is two years late. It resulted in compensation to Qantas of more than $200 million, upset the airline's fleet plans and handed an arch-rival a bigger than expected competitive advantage.

But it will be all smiles today as Qantas finally takes delivery of its first flagship Airbus A380 in the European plane maker's home town of Toulouse.
The giant plane is due to take off just before midnight tonight, Toulouse time, and will fly via Singapore to land in Sydney about 9am (AEDT) on Sunday.
The plane is due to enter commercial service on the Melbourne-Los Angeles route on October 20, with Sydney-Los Angeles following four days later.
It is due to go head to head with Singapore Airlines' A380 service on the Sydney-Singapore-London route from January.
If Singapore is anything to go by, the new plane should slide into service with minimal hiccups.
The double-decker superjumbo has already been flying commercially for almost a year and the Singaporean carrier, which now has half a dozen of the giant planes, says it has been its smoothest ever entry into service.
One reason for this is that the production delays that have plagued the aircraft, most of them due to a screw-up in the design and installation of wiring, allowed Airbus to extensively test the plane's sophisticated technology.
This has allowed the manufacturer to fix some of the bugs that might ordinarily have remained when it entered service.
Qantas will be the third airline to get the plane. Dubai-based Emirates received its first A380 last month and quickly flew a commercial service to New York. There is speculation Emirates might boost its current order of 20 aircraft.
That would likely be welcomed by financial analysts, who say the new aircraft can generate significant cost savings.
But it should also please environmentalists and people living near airports. The plane is the first of a new breed of more environmentally friendly aircraft. A person travelling 100km in one of its new seats uses only three litres of fuel, or about the same as a hybrid car.
The plane is also significantly quieter than its predecessor.
Airservices Australia tests have shown it's between 2.3 and 6.7 decibels quieter than a Boeing 747-400 during take-off and 2.1 to 3.7 decibels quieter than the same plane during landing. This is partly due to a new design of aerodynamics and partly to a new breed of engine.
The superjumbo is powered by massive Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines, each with a diameter of almost 10ft and capable of developing a sea-level static thrust of 72,000lbs.
At take-off, the four engines on the A380 deliver a thrust equivalent to the power of more than 3500 cars and its hollow, titanium fan blades suck in more than 1.25 tonnes of air every second as the tips travel at 1.3 times the speed of sound.
Qantas pilots have been training extensively to fly the new plane. Those spoken to by The Australian say it is enjoyable to fly and particularly stable when landing.
The pilots have been training at the airline's $34 million simulator at Mascot and many have been to Toulouse to try their hand at the real thing. More than 60 flight crew have now trained on the simulator to become the vanguard of a small army of about 560 pilots who will eventually take charge of the 20 A380s.
The A380 is also proving a hit with passengers, who invariably remark on how quiet the cabin is compared to other planes.
Airlines that have the aircraft so far have adopted it as their flagship and kitted it out to be the showpiece of their fleets. This means seating configurations below the Airbus-recommended optimum and new features such as lounges, bars, showers and luxurious first class seats.
In Qantas's case, this means 450 seats with 14 in first, 72 in business, 32 in premium economy and 332 economy.
Marc Newson was brought in to design the aircraft's interior and customers were drafted to test the comfort of its seats. Those able to shell out for first-class comfort will get a private suite with a 17in widescreen video monitor and seat that swivels into an armchair of a fully-flat extra long and wide bed. Business class features a private lounge area on the upper deck with leather sofas, a self-service bar and big-screen monitor that can be connected to a laptop for presentations. One of the more interesting decisions by Qantas was to stick with an enhanced version of its existing business class Skybed rather than follow the Singapore and Emirates lead and design an entirely new product for the premium cabin. The new version of the Skybed reclines to fully flat position, is 203cm away from the seat in front of it and in a two-two-two layout that eliminates the dreaded middle seat. Other changes include a bigger monitor that is now in the seat as well as new storage options. Qantas says the decision to stick with Skybed was a product of consumer research. "What our research was telling us was that we had the fundamentals right and the key ingredient we needed to work on was the fully flat," Qantas executive general manager John Borghetti told The Australian recently. "In doing that, though, we also improved other features. We improved privacy, we improved storage and we improved the video screen. It's no longer in the seat in front of you because the seat in front of you is farther away. And we improved its comfort." The premium economy cabin, also on the upper deck and behind the business cabin, features an ergonomically designed seat that is wider and has more leg room than economy. Passengers in cattle class should also get more space with a new design of seat by manufacturer Recaro that includes a carbon fibre seat back, an articulating base and flexible front edge. Everybody will get access to a new Panasonic entertainment system with more than 100 on-demand movies, 350 television selections, 500 audio CDs, 30 PC-style games and a selection of audio books and radio. And to help passengers adapt to their destination, the new system will feature Lonely Planet guides as well as language tutorials. Just which airline will emerge the victor in the battle of the big planes remains to be seen, but passengers appear to have already scored wins.

Still can get over with the fact that it was 2 GB=.=! all pics of Roy's parents shop opening went to the sewage throught the toilet bowl in my home I think...(e card was in my pocket when being washed)...will not be able to upload pics of Atsuki Gl yet....t.t I even took a pic of the rubbish centre of liang court when dumping away all the rubbish/boxes/whatever that you'll find lying around after a party? Those pics taken are just simply nice ^^....people wearing nice dresses and outfit 'gathering' inside a rubbish centre o.0! Helped out to bring the bonquets up to the shop after the party at lvl 2. This particular bonquet stand was standing on the trolley. So Belle stood on the cargo trolley along with her new friend and I had her pushed around like a cargo! lolX....heres the fun part. We headed for the main lift. It came and was packed and people inside were like...WHAT THE.....changed course and took the cargo lift instead which was narrow and long with light bulbs hanging downnnn..more on the opening when I get pics from fellow clique:D

woooooo! Debate's finally over!... ...it was such a great expericence AND stressful! My orginal word count was about 1200++ words and I minimised it to just 750++ words as time given was only 3 mins...=.=! 4 mins would be great instead^^here's what I presented as speaker 2...

Now that my first speaker has elaborated our main argument let me expand on our second point, which is about how computers have improved our economy.

Currently the economies of all major power houses rely on computers in one way or another in banks, businesses and most importantly the stock markets. Computers benefit the economy numerous ways but today I shall expand on two, namely, how they propel the economy and increase productivity.
Computer technology is one of the mainstays of analyses of a new economy. One of the key channels through which computers affect the economy is business investment in computing equipment. Joseph H. Haimowitz writes in the second quarter 1998 Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City Economic Review, "By all accounts, computers appear to be rapidly changing the way many of us conduct business, recreate, and communicate."
The market for computer products is a multi-billion dollar business where one can find a perfect balance of technology and effectively. In the world today, computers are used for a variety of tasks and play a crucial role in the areas of academics and economy.
Raging from devices that play a major part in our everyday lives such as cash registers, banking, to stock markets, these work are being done are a much faster rate and accuracy than man can achieve.
Besides this, computers also made work more productive since documents can be created and edited at the wink of an eye. Meetings can be carried out thru web cam by people from opposite sides of the world, emails and fax sends documents at a click of a computer, people can find numerous articles and statistics on the internet by a click of the button the possibilities are really endless.
Though computers replace mankind in many areas, computers have also created a large field with plenty of job opportunities from simple task like operating machinery to mechanics. Eight of the fastest growing occupation between now and 2010 will be computer related, according to new projections from the U.S. Bureau of Labour Statistics. The figure of computer related jobs create is expected to double from the current 380,000 to 760,000 by 2010. Not just creating more job opportunities, but also increasing standard of living and efficiency, and in some areas (manual work), it also increases the work safety factor.
Ladies and gentlemen isn’t it obvious enough that computers boost and create a driving force in our economy increasing productivity and revenue?

Moving on to education via computers, there are some key major advantages to online education, including the ability to set your own study time. There are dozens of reasons to go back to school but there are also dozens of reasons not to. You may be looking for a promotion or career change that requires additional training or you may simply be ready to learn something new. But with today’s busy lifestyle, there's little time to devote to regularly scheduled class time. That's where online education can be a great asset.
The fact that you have no location requirements and can actually work on your online education from anywhere is another great advantage. No matter what your time requirements or restrictions, you'll find that you can easily make your online education a reality.
Project laptop pilot, also known as one laptop per child, is an ambitious project that deployed more than 100,000 of laptops throughout Brazil, Maine and Cambodia. Allowing children to explore, create, and share ideas via laptops and participate actively in their own learning. The project also revolutionize in the way whereby computers educate the world’s children as nearly two–billion children in the developing world are inadequately educated, or receive no education at all. The individual and societal consequences of this chronic global crisis are profound. Children are consigned to poverty and isolation—just like their parents—never knowing what the light of learning could mean in their lives. At the same time, their governments struggle to compete in a rapidly evolving, global information economy, hobbled by a vast and increasingly urban underclass that cannot support itself, much less contribute to the commonweal, because it lacks the tools to do so.
Therefore, ladies and gentlemen, computers have not only reached out to the economy but also allow children from poor countries to be able to learn. Childrens in provertise countries have no means of affording library books much less teachers. But, low cost rugged computers are the only way for these children to gain an education.

Moving on to the individual impact that computers have provided us with is the internet. Computers have facilitated our lives in more ways then one but a more prominent way would be by improving communication.
The internet carries various information resources and services, such as emails, online chat, file transfer and file sharing, online gaming, and the interlinked hypertext documents and other resources of the World Wide Web.
Search engines like the widely know Google, has enabled us to search for resources in terms of research within seconds.
Online chats are also widely use via the internet with chat engines-for example, MSN messenger. Instant messaging has become a form of communication and to make news friends. People no longer have to wait a month to receive mail nor make a trip to the post office. Now all this can be done in a click of a button at no cost or hassle. Families can have face to face encounters by means of the webcam.
Apart from just communication on the social level, computers have changed the world into a better place for us to live in. It was stated in the Straits Times on the 15 of Aug that charitable organisations are no longer using stickers and pens as incentives for donation. Charitable organisations are now turning to the internet where money spent on virtual reality games like 2nd life is being contributed to charities.
In conclusion, ladies and gentlemen, computers bring about a world of good be it in the economy, education or communication and by far are here to stay.

Millenia Walk

Went to catch the fireworks with yakun aand Zj yesterday and got a spot next to the padang~human flag~facing the esplanade.

Fireworks ended and we were trying to get to the underpass but there just simply too many people! Yakun was kinda giddy I guess cuz' of the crowd and we got out of the crowd and stood next to a staircase god knows what it leads to. The stairs was dark and pitch black~couldn't see anything. Took a shot to see if anything was there. Here's the pic.

Vietnam Airlines jet engine catches fire after landing at Narita Airport.

An engine on a Vietnam Airlines jet caught fire after the plane arrived at Narita Airport on Wednesday morning, government officials said. None of the 277 passengers and crewmembers on board was injured as they had already disembarked by the time the fire started. The local office of the Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Ministry is investigating the cause of the fire. At around 7:40 a.m., an air traffic controller at Narita Airport noticed smoke coming out of one of the two engines on a Vietnam Airlines Boeing 777-200 that was taxiing toward a gate after landing. The engine caught fire at around 8:30 a.m. after all the passengers had disembarked at the gate. Seventeen fire engines were mobilized to extinguish the blaze.
Ministry inspectors suspect that fuel had leaked and began to smoke after it became heated.

A Cathay Pacific Airways Boeing 747 aircraft with 363 passengers suffered mid-air damage while descending for a landing at Vancouver on Tuesday, officials said.
There were no injuries but officials were trying to determine what happened to the plane at 20,000 feet while on a flight from New York to Hong Kong via the western Canadian city of Vancouver, said Jennifer Pearson, a Cathay Pacific spokeswoman. An external panel on the aircraft's fuselage was damaged in the incident, according to Pearson, but she could not confirm or deny local media reports that the panel had been separated from the plane.

28 Jul 2008- Another mid-air emergency has forced a Qantas jet to make an unscheduled landing, this time at Adelaide airport after a door opened during a flight to Melbourne. The Boeing 767-338 flying from Adelaide to Melbourne was forced to turn around 20 minutes after it took off at 5.40pm and make an emergency landing at 6.15pm. The incident comes just three days after a Qantas Boeing 747 made an emergency landing in Manila after a gaping hole exploded in its fuselage. Most of the passengers were transferred to later Qantas flights but some refused, choosing to fly with Virgin Blue – or even take other means of transport.

SYDNEY, July 26, 2008 (AFP) - - Qantas passengers who thought they were going to die when a mid-air scare left a gaping hole in their plane's fuselage finally completed a disrupted journey to Australia on Friday. They arrived in Melbourne on a replacement aircraft to an emotional welcome from family and friends and as reports emerged that the plane involved in the drama had a history of corrosion problems. The passengers were flying over the South China Sea bound for Melbourne on Friday when a mid-air rupture punched a three metre (10 foot) hole in the belly of their Boeing 747, forcing the pilot make an emergency landing in Manila.
Many were still shaken by the ordeal which saw the aircraft plunge 6,000 metres (20,000 feet) before stabilising. The (17 year old) Boeing 747-400 took off from London with 346 passengers and 19 crew on board and was heading to Melbourne after a stopover in Hong Kong when the incident occurred.

And well, it's time another company gets to operate the A380s....Emirates will be operating their first flight on August 1 route, Dubai-New York. Emirates ordered 58 A380s!!!~I was shocked when I read the article! It was like, what the ----. SIA will lose it glorious days of the only airline operating the A380s. But it's a fact that we can't change. To date, only 6 orders are completed and delievered out of 192 orders!! It'll take at least 3 decades to complete all orders!

Off to SPCA

Completed 8 hours of CIP hours last saturday doing SPCA's flagday which was.....terribly. Woke up feeling feverish and fell SICK while doing flagday. Xinying and the rest just wouldn't want to take a break so I went off for early break and we all stopped at 2 and I got a nice short sleep at Macdonalds^^ Can half-fulled within 3 hrs! Xingling manage to get her can full within the same period-lucky her.

I realised that my mom actually took out 1.5k out of my bank account last year w/o my consent! That pissed me off and questioned her with this reply:"I forgot about it already. Will put the money back asap." When I probed her why so withdrew so much she said, "so long ago already how I remember?!" =.=! And my edusave isn't being checked in yet. Reason being, 'check flew out my house itself' under my mom's keeping...scanned through my bank book again and realised that my edusave for 06 ain't banked it to....too late....check's expired. Woo hooo! Just packed my lugguage for my 9-days tour to Taiwan and HongKong. Pretty early flight and I have to wake up at 4 am to leave for the airport~I'll have pampering nights staying at 4/5 stars hotels throughout my jorney^^and a deluxe hotel in HongKong! Best of all to be visited should be the Taipei 101 tower*yeah!* Best of the best will be the plane rides!!! Taking a total of 4 flights(transit). My target for this trip is to eat eat eat and eat! Taiwan has lots of delicious food and well, a chance for me to gain weight. Cliques, remember to look out for me if i manage to get fatter :P

National Junior Solar Sprint Race'08

Finally! After making 4 cars! After 4 tiring days of preparing!~~~~we're prepare for the NJSSR'08. Well to go there and waste time in fact-_-! Gathered at Singapore Poly at 9 am and wasted 2 hours just for the sun to 'appear' to start the race. Making matters worse, it rained and was extremely sunny after the shower and it rained heavily after that! What a waste of time waiting for the weather to get better. Changed our car motor to a 1.5V motor and it the wheels were spinning even though there's little sunlight~which is good, unlike the 3V which needed strong sunlight. However, it just couldn't move up slopes~reason for losing*SOB* We made a total of 4 cars and just keep improving them or waste effort by making a new car? The car moves fast and gains speed every second. But it's all the damn slope fault that causes it ti stop moving! ARGHH!!! We put it on rough surface and could move! What does this proves??~don't include slope in a solar powered car race...

Was on my way to school today (for a Sloar Car race preparation) and I was caught in a jam. *Damn it* A lorry overturned!!! Saw what it looked like beneath a lorry and nothing interesting though. The lorry actually hit a Mazda and overturned. Perhaps the early shower was to blame partly? Caused two lanes to be closed and all the vehicles are SQUEEZING into the bus lane-_-! No traffic police was on site to ease the jam!-need more improvement for emergencies^^ My cab fare cost $7! So ex~ And the journey was less than 2 km.

Tried my best to smile

Went to take the SkyRide & Luge after Free Day. I was screaming and sat freezed in my sit during the SkyRide. Legs hanging in the air way above ground with cars passing by below at certain points. The chair swaying with the wind. And the ride was even scary when it stopped for a few seconds-god knows why. The SkyRide took sometime but the luge was so thrilling but lasted for about a minute or so? There was this stretch of road which was so straight that the car gained speed and the ride became bumpier. Felt like an aircraft touching the ground to a total stop when the ride ended!

Free day was extremely fun. Though this year's class are a mixture from different classes before, all of us seem to got along and had great fun. Made 'sandwhiches' for the class and Annabelle's mum picked me up which save me from all the hassel to get to Vivo City. Thanks Annabelle & your mum^^ This year's game was much more interesting than last year's. We were somehoe barred from leaving Sentosa just because of a trolley which made me extemely pissed off. Celebrated my 15th birthday yesterday at The Singapore Flyer! Had sooooo much fun and we kept jumping in the cabin for jumpshots.
